NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The threat of airstrikes against Syria has more than a few Americans thinking about the end of the world.
A recent poll from Nashville-based LifeWay Research found that almost one in three Americans see Syria’s recent conflict as part of the Bible’s plan for the end times.
One in four think that a U.S. military strike in Syria could lead to Armageddon. One in five believes the world will end in their lifetime.
Here is a breakdown of some of the key findings from the LifeWay Research story:
26% say military intervention might lead to the Armageddon, including:
- 34% of those over 65
- 21% of 18-29 year olds
32% say the civil war in Syria is part of the prophecies of Revelation, including:
- 36% of women
- 28% of men
- 40% of Southerners
- 24% of Northeasterners
- 51% of regular church goers
- 25% of those who attend rarely
- 14% of those who never attend
18% say the world will end in their lifetime, including:
- 24% of 18-29 year olds
- 15% of those over 65
