More than 20 years ago, Experiencing God was introduced to the world. Now it’s coming home. Experiencing God at Home is the next resource in the extensive family of Experiencing God resources published by B&H Publishing Group and LifeWay Christian Resources. It, along with a curriculum line and an Experiencing God documentary by LifeWay Films, will release May 1. Other resources will follow June 1.
Experiencing God, Knowing and Doing the Will of God, written by Henry Blackaby and Claude King, introduced millions to the perspective of seeing where God is at work and joining Him there.
The new resource from B&H Publishing Group, written by Richard and Tom Blackaby, sons of the elder Blackaby, will help parents see where God is at work in their homes and give them the means to implement the principles of Experiencing God into their family life. It will offer insights on Christian parenting and creating a home conducive to developing God-centered children.
“Experiencing God at Home addresses the important issue of how we as parents help our children to experience God as they are growing up in our home,” writes Richard Blackaby, president of Blackaby Ministries International. “We didn’t write the material because we were foolproof experts. In reality, we are simply fellow travelers, and a bit road weary at that.”
He continued, “Biblically, it is difficult to raise godly children. Of course, we know the Bible upholds a high view of godly and successful parenting. But what is unsettling is how few good examples there are of it. If Scripture expects godly parenting, then you would assume the Bible’s pages would be brimming with positive examples. But they are not.”
Suggestions for parents in the book are based directly on the seven realities Henry Blackaby used in the original Experiencing God: seeing God at work, being loved by God, getting involved with God’s work, listening for God’s direction, facing the challenge of obeying God, making adjustments in your life and knowing God better by experience. Each chapter of Experiencing God at Home relates to one of the realities.
“The content [of Experiencing God at Home] models an approach for parents wanting to disciple their kids,” said Tom Blackaby, director of International Ministries for Blackaby Ministries International. “It also will help parents see their children from God’s perspective. God wants to help parents equip their kids to grow up trusting Him.”
The Blackabys stress God works in families to produce godly character, develop a godly legacy, bless the families of the earth and be on mission.
B&H Publishing Group President Selma Wilson said, “The Blackabys came to B&H with the idea, and the timing was perfect. B&H was relaunching its B&H Kids line, which really has us focused now on what families need. So here came this idea to bring the original Experiencing God message—which we are always mindful of stewarding—more specifically to children, teenagers and parents alike through a variety of books for all of these groups, all based on sound biblical teaching. We were excited from the start.”
Wilson said the Blackabys write in Experiencing God at Home about the rapid secularization of society and even an increasingly anti-Christian stance in many cases. “That’s what we’re up against—a God-less way of thinking,” Wilson said. “We want to encourage and strengthen the parents out there who sincerely want to raise their children to love and serve God and to experience God’s blessing upon their lives.”
Wilson continued, “For the past 20 years, we’ve seen how the Experiencing God book and Bible study have been used to impact literally millions of lives and thousands of churches around the world. It’s exciting to see the heart of Dr. Blackaby’s teaching being furthered now by his own sons and grandsons. We see the generations coming together here and applying the Experiencing God message where our world needs it most today—at home among families. B&H is blessed to be part of this next step in a remarkable ministry.”
